Industry Standard Architecture (ISA)

The most common type of computer expansion bus. Other types include Extended Indus-

try Standard Architecture (EISA) and Microchannel Architecture (MCA).

Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN)

An international standard for providing end-to-end digital service over the public telecom-

munications network. The aim of ISDN is to integrate the transmissions of a number of

different devices, including computers, telephones, and fax machines, into one digital net-

work.

interrupt request (IRQ)

A number that must be assigned to devices that plug into your computerÕs expansion bus.
